Cross: This one is pretty obvious, the Cross is my mainstay cyclocross racing tubular wheel. The Cross is a 35mm deep, 25mm wide rim designed to balance weight with aerodynamic performance considering our typically fast American style races. Anything deeper is unnecessarily heaving and can be a too stiff and harsh vertically, in my experience. That makes the bike chatter and ride harsh on stutter bumps and generally negatively affecting traction. A mid depth like 35mm is perfect. The Cross is still exceptionally light at 1,300-1,380 grams depending on hub selection. 

These wheels remain my go to for courses with fast cornering and the associated high lateral forces and hard accelerations. The Cross will corner on rails and sprint like a road wheel while the WCX will ride softer and maintain better ground contact and follow the track on technical chutes or ruts, while pulling 100 grams weight off for those run ups. For European style courses with more running, elevation gain, and technical sections, consider the GCX.
