XPLOR Wheelset
I mounted a pair of 30 mm Michelin Power Roads. The tires mounted easily and held air immediately with a bit of Stan’s sealant. My first few rides have been mostly road with a bit of gravel. They feel fast without any buffeting in cross winds.
Fabulous Wheelset
I've had my Firefly for about a year now, so I wanted to add a review of the wheelset. XPLOR with DT Swiss 240s. I could not be happier with the responsiveness and comfort from this wheelset. I'm extremely satisfied with the purchase. I recommend Jerry's builds to everyone.
I love my XPLORs!
TL;DR: Buy some wheels from Jerry. I was going to wait until I’d had these wheels a year before reviewing them, but you know how time flies when you’re riding your bicycle. I got XPLOR wheels from Jerry for my 2015 Diverge in the fall of 2021, so they're 2.5 years old as I write this. I've been super happy with them. Partly this is just because they're so much better than what came on the bike. They're lighter, the Industry Nine Road Torch hubs and freehub are much nicer, and they're tubelessly plush (I weigh 175-ish lbs in riding clothes, and I'm running 30C Pirelli P Zero Race TLRs at low 60s psi on them at present). But mainly, they just seem SO well built. They're still completely true and I haven't even touched a spoke! The only maintenance they've needed in 10k miles was replacing the rear axle and freehub outboard bearings, which is perfectly reasonable because those two are the most exposed to the elements. I lucked into Jerry as a wheelbuilder. By 2021 I was wanting to go tubeless, so it was either new wheels or a new bike. The 2015 Diverge is an SCS bike, and when I started web-hunting for wheels Jerry was not only the one of the few that would build to that oddball rear geometry, he actually had an explanation (in a “Musings" article you can find on his website) of what SCS is. Since I really like the bike, and new wheels cost way less than new bikes, this made me totally happy! And then the wheels made me happier still! Also (bonus time), Jerry was really easy to work with and did a great job keeping me informed when some supply chain issues with the hubs cropped up (remember 2021?). Bottom line: have Jerry build you some wheels. You'll be glad you did!
