XPLOR+: The XPLOR+ is an extra wide 650b “Road Plus” wheel for those riders interested in bigger tires on their 700c bike. A Road Plus tire is usually 47mm wide so I build around a 30mm deep 25mm internal hookless carbon rim. The hookless rims provide excellent tubeless performance, flat protection and tire bead interface. The low, MTB style bead on these rims gives excellent pinch flat resistance at low pressures. The Xplor+ is very similar in use case and geometry to the Enve AG28 for plus sized gravel tires in 650b size.
For 2021, rims are now constructed using graphene doped Toray T800 carbon fiber. Graphene doping is a new process using wherein a very small amount of graphene (under 2%) is added to the T800 carbon matrix during processing. Scientific testing has demonstrated significant increases in strength and impact resistance results from the graphene doping process. Our testing has shown this to be true in practice, allowing pretty significant weight reductions in the rim construction.
These wheels can be built around an MTB freehub, so HG10 or XD or Microspline, vs HG 11 or XD-R. This is because you are very likely running a wide range 11-42 or larger MTB cassette, so there is no need for the longer freehub body required for an 11-28 "road" cassette. This allows the hub flanges to be 1.8mm wider set, and as such they build up stronger as well. Up to you!
If you have a Cannondale Slate with a Lefty fork, these are for you, but I have a separate "Slate" item in the store to make selection of the hubs easier for you. I also have done quite a few of these builds with generator hubs, so ask about that if you are in the touring scene!
I lace the XPLOR+ 28 hole, 3 cross front and rear with Sapim CX Ray spokes for light weight and performance.
All wheels come tubeless taped with premium alloy valve stems installed, ready for you to mount tubeless tires. Through axles are not provided with wheels as they are part of the bike frame system.
